Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Sittwe, head east on Strand Road towards the river. Continue along Strand Road until you reach the intersection with Anawrahta Road. Turn left onto Anawrahta Road and continue walking. After about 1 kilometer, you will come to Maha Bandula Park on your right. This is a good place to take a short break. From the park, continue on Anawrahta Road for another 500 meters until you reach the junction with Kyaw Min Road. Turn right onto Kyaw Min Road and walk straight for about 1 kilometer. You'll pass several shops and local eateries. Keep an eye out for signs pointing towards Lawkananda Pagoda. As you approach the pagoda, you will see it on a small hill slightly off the road to your left. Follow the path leading up to the pagoda.

    If you have rented a bicycle in Sittwe, start from the city center and head west towards Strand Road. Turn left on Strand Road and follow it along the river. After about 1 kilometer, turn left onto Anawrahta Road. Continue biking for about 1 kilometer until you reach Maha Bandula Park on your right. After a short break, continue on Anawrahta Road for another 500 meters. Turn right onto Kyaw Min Road and cycle straight for 1 kilometer. You’ll see signs for Lawkananda Pagoda as you approach. The pagoda will be slightly elevated on your left; park your bicycle and follow the path up to the pagoda.

    Find a trishaw (a local three-wheeled vehicle) from any major area in Sittwe, such as the market area or near your hotel. Inform the driver that you want to go to Lawkananda Pagoda. The ride will take approximately 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. The driver will take you along Strand Road, and then they will navigate to Anawrahta Road and subsequently onto Kyaw Min Road. You can ask the driver to drop you off at the base of the pagoda; it is a well-known destination so most drivers will know how to get there.
