Getting There

• Car

  Starting from Swakopmund, head southwest on the B2 highway. Continue for approximately 60 kilometers until you reach the junction with the C14 road. Turn left onto the C14 and follow it for about 30 kilometers. You will see signs for Welwitschia Plain. Follow these signs until you reach the coordinates 82JH+87P, Haigamkab. The drive should take around 1.5 hours, depending on traffic conditions.

• Car Rental

  If you're arriving in Walvis Bay or Windhoek, consider renting a car. From Windhoek, take the B1 road heading north, then switch to the B2 towards Swakopmund. Once you reach Swakopmund, follow the previous car guidance to reach Welwitschia Plain. Rental costs vary but expect to pay around NAD 600 - 1000 per day, plus fuel costs.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Welwitschia Plain via public transport, take a bus from Windhoek to Swakopmund. Once in Swakopmund, you can take a local taxi or shuttle service to reach the C14 road. It’s advisable to negotiate the fare beforehand. Be aware that public transport may not run frequently, so check schedules in advance.

• Guided Tour

  Consider joining a guided tour that includes a visit to Welwitschia Plain. Many tour operators in Swakopmund offer half-day or full-day trips that include transportation, a guide, and sometimes even meals. Prices for these tours typically range from NAD 800 to NAD 1500 per person.

• Walking

  For the adventurous, if you are already in the area and wish to explore, you can park at a nearby location and walk towards Welwitschia Plain. Ensure you have plenty of water and sun protection, as the area can be exposed with limited shade. This option is not recommended for everyone due to the distance and heat.
