Car
Start your journey in Hardap by heading northwest on the B1 road towards Mariental. Continue on the B1 for approximately 150 kilometers until you reach the junction with the C14 road. Turn left onto the C14, which will take you through scenic landscapes. Follow the C14 for about 200 kilometers until you reach the town of Opuwo. From Opuwo, take the C43 road towards the Epupa Falls. Follow the C43 for about 120 kilometers until you see signs for Epupa Falls. The falls will be on your right, and you can use GPS coordinates (-17.0003371, 13.2433362) to guide you directly to the location. Ensure your vehicle is suitable for gravel roads, as the last stretch may not be paved.
Public Transportation
If you are traveling by public transportation, you can take a bus from Windhoek to Opuwo. Several bus companies operate this route, and the journey takes around 12 hours. Once you arrive in Opuwo, you will need to find local transport options to reach Epupa Falls. You can hire a taxi or look for shared transport that goes to Epupa. The cost for a taxi to Epupa Falls from Opuwo can be around 800 Namibian Dollars (NAD). Make sure to arrange your return trip as transport options may be limited.
Combination of Car and Hiking
For adventurous travelers, consider driving to Opuwo and then hiking the last section to Epupa Falls. Use the same route as described for driving: B1 to C14 and then C43. Once you arrive at the designated parking area near the falls, park your vehicle and follow the well-marked hiking trails to reach the viewpoint of the falls. Be sure to carry enough water and snacks for the hike, as it can be hot and strenuous.
