Car
To reach Baines Baobabs by car from Rundu, head west on the B10 road towards the border with Botswana. After approximately 200 km, turn onto the D4600 road. This road is a dirt road leading towards the Kudia Kam area. It is strongly advised to use a 4x4 vehicle due to the road conditions. Continue on the D4600 for about 60 km until you reach the VQQ9+4JX coordinates, which is the location of Baines Baobabs. Be prepared for potential rough patches and plan your trip accordingly.
Public Transportation
From Rundu, take a bus or shared taxi heading towards Katima Mulilo. Inform the driver that you want to get off at the D4600 junction. Once you arrive at the junction, you will likely need to hire a 4x4 vehicle or arrange for a local driver, as public transportation does not go directly to Baines Baobabs. The cost for a shared taxi from Rundu to the junction may be around 150 NAD. Hiring a 4x4 for the remaining distance can vary in price, so negotiate with local drivers.
Guided Tour
Consider booking a guided tour that includes transportation from Rundu or any major town in Kavango to Baines Baobabs. Many tour operators can provide a complete package that includes a 4x4 vehicle, a knowledgeable guide, and meals. This option typically costs more (around 800-2000 NAD per person depending on the inclusions) but ensures a hassle-free experience.
