Car
If you are driving from Windhoek, take the B1 highway south towards Rehoboth. Continue on the B1 until you reach the turnoff to the C24 road towards Sossusvlei. Follow the C24 for about 120 kilometers until you reach the entrance to the Namib-Naukluft National Park. There is a park entrance fee of approximately 80 NAD per person. After paying the fee, continue on the road to Sossusvlei. Once you arrive at the Sossusvlei parking area, you will need to take a 4x4 shuttle (costs around 100 NAD per person) to reach Deadvlei, as the last part of the road is not accessible by standard vehicles.
Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, take a bus from Windhoek to Sesriem, which is the nearest settlement to Sossusvlei. The bus ride costs approximately 300 NAD and takes around 5-6 hours. Once in Sesriem, you can hire a taxi or join a guided tour that will take you to the entrance of the Namib-Naukluft National Park. Similar to the car option, you will need to pay the park entrance fee of about 80 NAD per person. After entering the park, you will have to take a 4x4 shuttle service (approximately 100 NAD per person) to reach Deadvlei.
Guided Tour
Another option is to book a guided tour that includes transportation from Windhoek directly to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. Various tour companies offer this service, and prices vary depending on the inclusions. Most tours will cover the park entrance fees and the shuttle to Deadvlei, often starting around 1,500 NAD per person for a full-day tour. This is a convenient option as it will take care of all transportation and provide a knowledgeable guide.
Use Deadvlei as your starting point for nearby food, family ideas, nightlife, and more local discoveries.
