Car Rental
To reach Deadvlei by car, you can rent a vehicle in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. From Windhoek, take the B1 highway south towards Sesriem. The journey is approximately 400 kilometers and takes around 5-6 hours. When you arrive in Sesriem, follow the signs to Sossusvlei. Note that you will need to pay an entrance fee to the Namib-Naukluft National Park, which is around N$ 80 (Namibian Dollars) per person. After entering the park, continue on the gravel road until you reach the Sossusvlei parking area. From there, you will need to take a 5 km shuttle ride (N$ 100 round trip) or hike on foot to reach Deadvlei.
Public Transportation
If you're using public transportation, you can take a bus from Windhoek to Sesriem. Companies like Intercape and others offer services to Sesriem, and the journey typically takes about 6-7 hours. Once you arrive in Sesriem, you will need to arrange for a shuttle service to Sossusvlei, as there is no direct public transport to Deadvlei. Shuttle services are available from local operators and will cost around N$ 100 for a round trip to the Sossusvlei parking area. From the parking area, you can take the shuttle or hike the 5 km to Deadvlei.
Guided Tour
Another option is to book a guided tour from Windhoek or Swakopmund that includes Deadvlei in its itinerary. These tours typically provide transportation to and from the locations and often include stops at key attractions in the Namib Desert. Pricing varies depending on the tour operator, but expect to pay around N$ 1,500 to N$ 2,500 for a full-day tour that includes entry fees and lunch.
