Getting There

  • Car

    To reach Bird Island by car, start your journey from the nearest major town, Swakopmund. Head north on the B2 highway towards Henties Bay. After approximately 40 kilometers, you will reach the junction to the Skeleton Coast National Park. Continue on the B2, and soon you will see signs for the park entrance. Entry fees may apply, so ensure you have cash ready (approximately N$ 100 per person). After entering the park, follow the gravel roads towards the coast. Bird Island is located about 30 kilometers from the park entrance, and you may need a 4x4 vehicle for the last part of the journey due to rough terrain. The island is accessible during low tide, so check tide times before your trip.

  • Public Transportation

    If you are using public transportation, you can take a shuttle or bus from Swakopmund to Henties Bay. Once in Henties Bay, you can hire a local taxi or guide who knows the area well to take you to Bird Island. It is advisable to arrange this in advance, as not all taxis may be familiar with the route. Expect to pay around N$ 300 for a taxi ride to Bird Island.
