From any location in Nebraska National Forest, take the nearest highway or road leading to US-20. Follow US-20 eastbound towards Valentine, NE. Continue on US-20 for approximately 60 miles until you reach the junction with NE-97. Take a left turn onto NE-97 South and continue for about 12 miles. As you approach Valentine, look for signs indicating 'Valentine National Wildlife Refuge'. Turn right onto Pony Lake Road and follow it for about 2 miles until you reach the entrance of the refuge at 39679 Pony Lake Rd, Valentine, NE 69201.
