Car
From Kathmandu, head east on the Arniko Highway (also known as the Kathmandu-Banepa Highway). After about 20 km, take the exit towards Banepa. Continue on this road for approximately 10 km until you reach Banepa. Once in Banepa, follow signs toward Nala. After entering Nala, you can either park your car there and start your hike or drive closer to the Tonchok view tower location. The final stretch will require you to navigate narrow local roads. You can park at MG5R+988, Nala Ugrachandi, which is the nearest point to the tower. Note that the roads may be steep and rough, so a vehicle with good clearance is advisable.
Public Transportation
Take a bus or microbus from Kathmandu to Banepa. Buses leave from various points in Kathmandu such as Ratna Park. The fare is usually around NPR 100-200 and the journey takes about 1-1.5 hours. Once in Banepa, you can hire a local taxi or take a local bus heading towards Nala. The fare for a taxi to the Tonchok view tower area will be around NPR 200-400, depending on your negotiation skills. Upon reaching Nala, you will need to trek the remaining distance to the Tonchok view tower, which is about 5 km from the bus stop and typically takes 1.5 hours of uphill walking.
Hiking
If you decide to park your vehicle in Nala or if you arrive by public transport, prepare for a hike. The trail to Tonchok view tower is about 5 km long, mostly uphill. It is advisable to wear sturdy hiking shoes and carry water. The trail is well-marked, but it's good to ask locals for directions if you're unsure. The hike offers beautiful views of the surrounding hills and valleys, making it a rewarding experience.
