Car
If you are traveling by car, first navigate to the town of Pokhara, which is a major hub for tourists in the Dhaulagiri Zone. From Pokhara, follow signs for the Baglung-Pokhara Highway (also known as the Siddhartha Highway) and head towards Nayapul, which is approximately a 1.5-hour drive from Pokhara. At Nayapul, you will need to park your car. From there, you can start the trek to Poon Hill.
Trekking from Nayapul
After parking, take a local bus or hire a jeep to Nayapul, if you prefer not to drive. From Nayapul, the trek to Poon Hill usually involves a hike through the villages of Tikhedhunga and Ghorepani. The trek is approximately 4-5 hours and is moderately challenging, so be prepared with proper trekking gear. Make sure to carry water, snacks, and a map or GPS for navigation.
Accommodation in Ghorepani
Once you reach Ghorepani, it's advisable to stay overnight to acclimatize and enjoy the sunrise view from Poon Hill. Accommodation options are available in Ghorepani, ranging from basic lodges to more comfortable guesthouses. Prices can vary, but expect to pay around NPR 1000-3000 for a night depending on the type of accommodation.
Hiking to Poon Hill
On the next morning, start your hike early, around 4:30 AM, to Poon Hill, which is only about a 45-minute hike from Ghorepani. The trail is well-marked and offers stunning views along the way. Make sure to carry a flashlight or headlamp as it will be dark. The viewpoint at the top of Poon Hill offers breathtaking views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges, making the early morning trek worth the effort.
