Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car, start from the nearest major town in Dhaulagiri Zone, which is Beni. Drive on the Beni-Jomsom road towards Jomsom. The road is well-maintained but can be winding and steep in some areas. Make sure to follow the signs to Jomsom. Once you reach Jomsom, continue on the road towards Kowang. The Dhaulagiri Sanctuary Trek starts from Kowang, located approximately 30 minutes from Jomsom. You can park your car in Kowang before starting your trek.

    To use public transportation, take a local bus or jeep from Beni to Jomsom. Buses and jeeps leave regularly from the Beni bus station. The journey can take anywhere from 5 to 7 hours, depending on road conditions. Once you arrive in Jomsom, you can either take another jeep or walk to Kowang, which is about 8 kilometers away. Local jeeps operate frequently between Jomsom and Kowang, costing around NPR 200-300 per person. After reaching Kowang, you can begin your trek to the Dhaulagiri Sanctuary.
