Car
From Kathmandu, head east on the Ring Road until you reach the Bhaktapur highway (also known as the Araniko Highway). Follow this road until you reach the town of Jiri, which is approximately a 7-8 hour drive from Kathmandu. Jiri is the starting point for many trekkers heading to Everest Base Camp. Note that you may need to hire a local driver or rent a car. Expect to pay around NPR 8,000 to NPR 12,000 for the journey.
Public Bus
Take a local bus from Kathmandu to Jiri. Buses leave from the bus terminal in Kathmandu, and the journey typically takes around 8 hours. The fare for this trip is about NPR 500 to NPR 800. Once you arrive in Jiri, you can begin your trek towards Everest Base Camp, or look for local guides who can assist with the trek.
Trekking
From Jiri, you'll start your trek to Everest Base Camp. The trek usually takes around 10-14 days, depending on your pace and acclimatization needs. Follow the well-marked trails towards the town of Lukla, where you can catch a flight back to Kathmandu if needed, or continue on the trail to Everest Base Camp.
Flight
If you're short on time or prefer a quicker route, you can take a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, which is a common starting point for many trekkers heading to Everest Base Camp. Flights are operated by several local airlines, and you should book your ticket in advance. The flight takes about 30-40 minutes and costs around NPR 10,000 to NPR 15,000. From Lukla, you can start your trek to Everest Base Camp, which typically takes 8-12 days.
