Getting There

  • Car

    If you are driving, the journey to Gokyo starts from Kathmandu. You would need to drive to Lukla, which is approximately 140 kilometers away. The road is not fully paved and can be challenging, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended. From Lukla, you must park your vehicle and continue your journey on foot or by hiring a local porter or guide. The trek from Lukla to Gokyo takes about 10-12 days depending on your pace and acclimatization needs.

  • Public Transportation

    To reach Gokyo via public transportation, take a bus or jeep from Kathmandu to Jiri, which is about 188 kilometers away. The bus fare ranges from NPR 800 to 1500, depending on the service. From Jiri, you can take another local jeep to Lukla. Upon reaching Lukla, you will need to trek towards Gokyo. The trek from Lukla to Gokyo typically takes around 8-10 days, so ensure you are well-prepared for this hike.
