If you are traveling by car, start from Kathmandu and head towards the Helambu region. Take the Araniko Highway (also known as the Kathmandu – Kodari Road) and follow the signs toward Bhotechaur. Continue until you reach the Melamchi Bazaar, which is a key stop for trekkers and visitors. From Melamchi Bazaar, follow the road signs directing you to Dhap Dam. The drive from Kathmandu to Melamchi takes about 2-3 hours, depending on traffic. After reaching Melamchi Bazaar, the road will lead you to Dhap Dam, roughly a 30-minute drive. Ensure your vehicle is suitable for mountain roads, and be cautious as they can be narrow and winding. Parking is available near the dam.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, you can catch a bus from Kathmandu to Melamchi Bazaar. Buses leave from the bus terminal in Kathmandu (usually from Ratna Park or Balaju). The bus ride to Melamchi takes approximately 2-3 hours and costs around NPR 300-500, depending on the bus service. Once you arrive at Melamchi Bazaar, look for local jeep or microbus services that head toward Dhap Dam. The ride from Melamchi to Dhap Dam will take about 30 minutes and cost around NPR 200-300. Make sure to confirm with the driver that they are heading to Dhap Dam before departing.
