Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start your journey from Kathmandu. Drive towards the north on the Arniko Highway (also known as the Kodari Highway) for approximately 70 kilometers until you reach Chautara, the main town in the Helambu region. From Chautara, continue on the local road towards Melamchi. After reaching Melamchi, follow the signs to Helambu, which will lead you towards the Ama Chhumo Yangri location. The approximate total driving time from Kathmandu to Ama Chhumo Yangri is around 3-4 hours, depending on traffic conditions.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Ama Chhumo Yangri using public transportation, take a bus from Kathmandu to Chautara. Buses leave from various terminals in Kathmandu, with the journey taking about 4-5 hours. Once in Chautara, you can hire a local jeep or take a bus to Melamchi. From Melamchi, you will need to get a local bus or jeep to reach Helambu. The final leg of your journey will involve a short hike from the nearest road access point to Ama Chhumo Yangri, which is about a 30-minute walk, so prepare accordingly. Public transportation fares vary but expect to pay around NPR 300-500 for the bus from Kathmandu to Chautara, and additional costs for the local transportation in Helambu.

• Hiking

  If you are already trekking in the Helambu region, you can access Ama Chhumo Yangri by following the established trekking paths. Depending on your starting point in the Helambu Trek, you may take a trail that leads towards the location. For example, if you are near Melamchi, take the trail heading north, which is well-marked and leads directly to Ama Chhumo Yangri. The hike may take 2-3 hours, depending on your pace and the specific route you take. Make sure to carry sufficient water and snacks as there are limited facilities along the trails.
