Walking
From Kanchenjunga Base Camp, head towards the main trekking path that leads south. Continue walking along the path until you reach the junction leading to the village of Ghunsa. Follow the signs directing you to Ghunsa. Once you reach the village, ask the locals for directions to the nearest road that connects to the larger trails heading westward towards Kathmandu. This is a scenic route with stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

After reaching Ghunsa, look for a local bus heading towards Taplejung. Buses generally operate at intervals throughout the day, but it’s advisable to check the schedule in advance. The journey to Taplejung takes approximately 3-4 hours. Once you arrive at Taplejung, you can take a shared jeep or taxi to the nearest city with regular transport services to Kathmandu.

From Taplejung, locate the shared jeep station. These jeeps are available regularly and will take you to the city of Bhadrapur. The ride might take around 5-6 hours, depending on road conditions. Ensure you confirm the fare with the driver before boarding, as prices may vary. Expect to pay around NPR 800-1200 for the journey.

Bus to Kathmandu
Once you reach Bhadrapur, head to the bus terminal where you can catch a long-distance bus to Kathmandu. Buses to Kathmandu operate frequently throughout the day; however, booking in advance is recommended during peak tourist seasons. The journey from Bhadrapur to Kathmandu takes approximately 10-12 hours. Ticket prices range from NPR 1500 to NPR 2500 depending on the bus service you choose.
