Travel Guide to Balkumari Temple

Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from Kathmandu, head east towards Bhaktapur. From Kathmandu Durbar Square, take the Araniko Highway (also known as the Kathmandu-Bhaktapur Road). After approximately 10 kilometers, keep an eye out for the exit towards Madhyapur Thimi. Once in Madhyapur Thimi, follow signs for Balkumari Temple. The temple is located at M9GP+84P. Parking is available near the temple, but be mindful of local parking regulations.

• Public Transportation (Microbus or Local Bus)

  From Kathmandu, you can take a microbus or local bus heading towards Bhaktapur. The buses are frequent and depart from various points in Kathmandu, such as Ratna Park. Ensure you ask the conductor for a bus that stops at Madhyapur Thimi. Once you arrive at Madhyapur Thimi, you can either walk (approximately 15-20 minutes) or take a local rickshaw to Balkumari Temple, located at M9GP+84P. The rickshaw fare is usually around NPR 100-200 depending on your negotiation skills.

• Taxi

  Hiring a taxi is a convenient option for reaching Balkumari Temple. Simply ask your hotel or use a ride-hailing app to request a taxi to M9GP+84P, Madhyapur Thimi. The fare from central Kathmandu should be around NPR 800-1200 depending on traffic and your negotiation skills. Make sure to confirm the price before starting your journey.

• Bicycle Rental

  For the more adventurous, consider renting a bicycle in Kathmandu. Cycle towards Bhaktapur along the Araniko Highway. It’s a scenic route, but be cautious of traffic. Once you reach Madhyapur Thimi, you can park your bicycle nearby and walk to Balkumari Temple, which is approximately 1 kilometer from the main road. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow local cycling rules.
