Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car within the Koshi Zone, you will first need to reach the town of Khumjung. From major towns like Dhankuta or Biratnagar, head towards the eastern part of the Koshi Zone. Follow the signs to Namche Bazaar. Upon reaching Namche Bazaar, take the road towards Khumjung, which is approximately a 30-minute drive. Once you arrive in Khumjung, you can park your car in the designated areas and prepare for the next leg of your journey to Imja Lake, which is about a 1.5 to 2-hour hike from Khumjung.

• Public Transportation

  For travelers using public transportation, take a bus or minivan from larger towns like Biratnagar or Dhankuta to Namche Bazaar. The journey can take approximately 8-10 hours depending on road conditions. From Namche Bazaar, you will need to hire a local guide or take a shared jeep to Khumjung, which is about a 30-minute ride. Once in Khumjung, prepare for a hike to Imja Lake. The hike will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, during which you will enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.

• Hiking

  After reaching Khumjung, the hike to Imja Lake begins. Start at the edge of Khumjung and follow the trail that heads towards the mountains. The trail is well-marked but can be challenging, so good hiking shoes are recommended. Along the way, you'll pass through beautiful landscapes and local villages. Be sure to carry enough water and snacks, as there are limited facilities on the trail. Upon reaching Imja Lake, take some time to enjoy the breathtaking scenery and consider hiring a local guide for insights into the area.
