Getting there

Car

From Kanchenjunga Base Camp, first, you will need to drive to the nearest major town, which is Taplejung. Depending on road conditions, the drive may take around 3 to 4 hours. Once in Taplejung, you can hire a local jeep or taxi to take you towards the Sandakphu trailhead. The ride will take approximately 2 hours. Make sure to confirm the fare beforehand, which typically ranges from NPR 2000 to NPR 3000. Upon reaching the trailhead at Tumlingtar, you will need to trek the remaining distance to Sandakphu.

Public Transportation

From Kanchenjunga Base Camp, take a local bus or shared jeep to the nearest bus station in Taplejung. This journey will take about 3 to 4 hours. Once in Taplejung, you can catch a shared jeep heading towards Tumlingtar, which is the last point accessible by vehicle. This portion of the trip will take about 2 hours, and you should expect to pay around NPR 500 to NPR 700 for the jeep ride. After reaching Tumlingtar, you will need to start your trek to Sandakphu, which is approximately a 5-6 hour hike.

Trekking

From Tumlingtar, the trek to Sandakphu will take around 5-6 hours. The trail is well-marked, and you will pass through beautiful landscapes and local villages. Ensure you have proper trekking gear and enough water and snacks. It's advisable to hire a local guide for an enhanced experience, which may cost around NPR 1500 to NPR 3000 per day.
