Car
If you are traveling by car, start from Pokhara, which is a common base for tourists in the Mid-Hills region. Drive north on the Prithvi Highway (Route 6) towards the town of Nayapul. From Nayapul, follow the signs to Beni. The drive takes approximately 2 to 3 hours based on traffic conditions. Once in Beni, continue on to Jomsom, which is about a 3 to 4 hour drive. There are scenic views along the way. Once you reach Jomsom, park your vehicle and prepare for the next leg of the journey.
Public Transportation (Bus)
From Pokhara, you can take a local bus to Beni. Buses leave frequently and the journey takes around 2 to 3 hours. Once you arrive in Beni, you will need to transfer to a local jeep or bus heading to Jomsom. This part of the journey can take an additional 3 to 4 hours, depending on road conditions. The cost for the bus from Pokhara to Beni is typically around NPR 500-700, and from Beni to Jomsom, around NPR 700-1000.
Jeep from Jomsom to Muktinath
Once in Jomsom, you can hire a local jeep or take a bus to Muktinath. The distance from Jomsom to Muktinath is approximately 20 kilometers and the journey takes about 1 to 1.5 hours. This ride provides spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. The cost for a jeep ride is around NPR 2000-3000, while a bus is usually cheaper at around NPR 500-700.
Trekking
For those who enjoy trekking, you can also hike from Jomsom to Muktinath. The trek is approximately 12-14 kilometers and takes around 5-6 hours, depending on your pace. The trail offers beautiful landscapes and cultural experiences along the way. Make sure to carry sufficient water and snacks for the journey.
