Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car within Narayani Zone, you will need to head towards the nearest major road that connects to Kathmandu. The most common route is to take the East-West Highway (Mahendra Highway) towards Kathmandu. Once you reach Bhaktapur, follow signs to Kathmandu, which will lead you through the city. As you enter Kathmandu, look for signs directing you to the Basantapur area, where Kathmandu Durbar Square is located. Parking is limited, so consider finding a spot in a nearby parking facility and walking to the square.

• Public Bus

  To reach Kathmandu Durbar Square via public bus, start by locating a local bus terminal in Narayani Zone. Buses frequently run from cities like Narayanghat and Hetauda to Kathmandu. Board a bus heading to Kathmandu; the fare is typically around NPR 300-500. The journey may take 4-6 hours depending on traffic. Once you arrive at the Kathmandu bus terminal, you can take a taxi or a local microbus that goes to Basantapur. Taxis are available at the terminal, and the fare to Kathmandu Durbar Square is approximately NPR 200-300.

• Shared Taxi

  For a quicker option, consider taking a shared taxi from Narayani Zone to Kathmandu. You can find shared taxis at local taxi stands. The fare is usually around NPR 600-800 per person, and the trip will take about 3-4 hours. Upon reaching Kathmandu, ask the driver to drop you off at Basantapur or Kathmandu Durbar Square directly.

• Motorbike

  If you prefer to ride a motorbike, you can rent one in Narayani Zone. Follow the same route as cars, taking the East-West Highway towards Kathmandu. Keep an eye out for traffic and local road conditions. Once in Kathmandu, navigate towards the Basantapur area. Do note that parking for motorbikes is available in designated areas near Kathmandu Durbar Square.
