Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the town of Khumjung. To reach the base of Pumori, head east from Khumjung, taking the road that leads to Namche Bazaar. Once you reach Namche Bazaar, continue on the trail towards the Everest Base Camp. Follow the signs for the Khumbu region. After approximately 2-3 hours of hiking from Namche, you will reach the Dingboche area. From Dingboche, continue towards Pumori, which will be visible to the southwest. Be aware that a 4WD vehicle is required for the rough terrain, and you may need to pay for a local guide to assist you through this rugged path.
Public Transportation
To reach Pumori via public transportation, first take a local bus or jeep from Kathmandu to Jiri. The journey takes about 7-10 hours and costs approximately NPR 1,500-2,000. From Jiri, you can take another bus or jeep to the small village of Khumjung. This leg of the trip may take around 4-6 hours and costs around NPR 500-1,000. Once in Khumjung, follow the same hiking trail as mentioned for car travelers towards Namche Bazaar, and then continue to Dingboche. Finally, hike towards Pumori, which is visible as you approach its base.
Hiking
After reaching Dingboche from either method above, start your hike towards Pumori. The trail is well-marked and travels through scenic landscapes, taking about 4-5 hours of steady hiking, depending on your pace. Be sure to carry enough water and snacks, as there are limited facilities along the way. Always check weather conditions before heading out, and consider hiring a local guide if you are unfamiliar with the area.
Use Pumori as your starting point for nearby food, family ideas, nightlife, and more local discoveries.
