Getting there

Car

If you are traveling by car, start from the nearest town, Khumjung. Drive towards the Everest Base Camp Trekking Route. Follow the signs toward Tyangboche, which is about 10 kilometers from Khumjung. The road is well-marked, but be cautious of the narrow paths and occasional landslides. Upon reaching Tyangboche, park your vehicle. The Tengboche Monastery is a short hike from the parking area, approximately 30 minutes uphill. The views along the way are breathtaking, so take your time.

Public Transportation

For those using public transportation, take a local bus or jeep from Khumjung to Tyangboche. The ride is about 30-45 minutes depending on the road conditions. There are multiple departures throughout the day, but it’s best to check the schedule ahead of time. Once you arrive in Tyangboche, the Tengboche Monastery is a 30-minute uphill walk from the drop-off point. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes as the path can be steep and rocky.

Trekking

If you are in Rolwaling Valley and prefer trekking to Tengboche Monastery, start from your current location and follow the trekking paths towards Tyangboche. The trek can take several hours depending on where you are starting from. The trail is marked, but it’s advisable to have a map or a guide. Bring plenty of water and snacks, as there are limited facilities along the way. The last stretch to the monastery involves a steep ascent, so be prepared for a bit of a workout!
