Getting There

• Car

  From Upper Mustang, drive towards Jomsom. The road is well-maintained but can be winding. Once you reach Jomsom, you will need to continue towards Kagbeni and then follow the road to the town of Marpha. From Marpha, take the dirt road leading to the north, which eventually connects to the road to Dolpo. Make sure to check road conditions, as they can vary seasonally.

• Public Transportation (Bus)

  Take a bus from Upper Mustang to Jomsom. Buses depart regularly from the main bus station. After reaching Jomsom, transfer to a bus heading towards Kagbeni. Once in Kagbeni, you may need to wait for a minibus or jeep that will take you towards Marpha. From Marpha, you will have to arrange for a local jeep or shared transport that can take you into Dolpo, specifically to Saldang. Be prepared for a long journey and ensure the bus schedules align with your travel plans.

• Jeep/Shared Transport

  Once in Marpha, you will need to hire a jeep that specifically goes towards Saldang, Upper Dolpo. This is a remote area and shared transport can be hard to find, so it's advisable to arrange this in advance. The journey can take several hours and may require negotiating the fare. Expect costs to range from NPR 10,000 to NPR 20,000 depending on the vehicle and number of passengers.

• Trekking

  If you’re feeling adventurous and have the time, you can trek from Marpha to Saldang. This option is more time-consuming and requires a guide due to the challenging terrain. The trek can take about 5-7 days, depending on your pace and the routes taken. Make sure to carry adequate supplies and check in with local authorities for any necessary permits.
