Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the nearest major city on the Dutch Coast, such as Leeuwarden. Head northwest on the N31 from Leeuwarden towards the direction of Harlingen. Follow the N31 for approximately 20 kilometers until you reach the roundabout near Harlingen. Take the exit toward Sint Jacobiparochie (N359). Continue on N359 for about 10 kilometers. You will see signs for Waddenzee. Follow these signs, and finally, turn onto Zeedijk Street. The Unesco Waddenzee is located at Zeedijk 1, 9079 PH Sint Jacobiparochie. Parking is available nearby, but there may be fees depending on the season.
Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, begin your journey at the Leeuwarden train station. Take a train to Harlingen, which takes about 20 minutes. Upon arriving at Harlingen station, transfer to bus line 66 towards Sint Jacobiparochie. The bus ride will take approximately 30 minutes. Get off at the Zeedijk stop, which is close to your destination. From the bus stop, it is a short walk to the Unesco Waddenzee at Zeedijk 1, 9079 PH Sint Jacobiparochie. Be sure to check the current bus schedules as they may vary, especially on weekends and holidays.
Bicycle
For the more adventurous, cycling is a fantastic option. You can rent a bicycle in Leeuwarden. From there, follow the same route as you would by car, via the N31 towards Harlingen, then the N359 towards Sint Jacobiparochie. There are dedicated cycling paths along these roads, making it a safe and scenic route. The total distance is approximately 30 kilometers, so plan for a 2-3 hour ride depending on your pace. Upon reaching Sint Jacobiparochie, you can easily find the Unesco Waddenzee at Zeedijk 1. Remember to bring water and snacks for the ride!
