From Haarlem, head to Haarlem Station. You can walk to the station from anywhere in central Haarlem. Once at the station, purchase a ticket to Alkmaar. Take a train towards Alkmaar, which should take about 30 minutes. Upon arrival at Alkmaar Train Station, exit the station and walk towards the bus stop located just outside the station. Take bus number 2 or 3 towards 'Berenkoog' and get off at the 'Berenkoog' stop. From there, it's a short walk to the Foundation Hortus Alkmaar, which is located at Berenkoog 43.

Bicycle Rental
If you're feeling adventurous, you can rent a bicycle in Haarlem. Head to the nearest bike rental shop, such as 'Haarlem Fietsenverhuur'. Once you have your bike, cycle north towards Alkmaar via the N205 road. The distance is approximately 20 kilometers and should take around 1 hour. Follow the signs for Alkmaar, and once you reach the city, head towards Berenkoog. The Foundation Hortus Alkmaar is located at Berenkoog 43.

If you're up for a long hike, you can walk from Haarlem to Alkmaar. Start from the city center of Haarlem and head north towards the N205 road. Follow the path along the N205, which will lead you directly to Alkmaar. This walk is approximately 20 kilometers long, so be prepared for a journey of about 4 to 5 hours. Once you reach Alkmaar, follow the signs to Berenkoog, where you will find the Foundation Hortus Alkmaar at Berenkoog 43.
