Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Haarlem, head southeast on the Grote Markt towards the Zijlstraat. Continue straight onto the Zijlweg and follow it for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the train station, Haarlem Centraal. From there, take a train towards Leiden, which usually takes around 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Leiden Centraal Station, exit the station and head south towards the Beestenmarkt. Continue on the Breestraat, which will lead you to the Rapenburg. Turn left onto Rapenburg and walk for approximately 500 meters until you reach Rapenburg 70, where Universiteit Leiden is located.

    If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike from one of the many rental shops in Haarlem. Start from the Grote Markt and head southeast on the Zijlstraat, then turn onto Zijlweg. Follow the road towards Leiden, which is about 15 kilometers away. The route is mostly flat and scenic, taking you through beautiful Dutch countryside. Upon reaching Leiden, follow the signs to the city center until you arrive at Rapenburg. The university is located at Rapenburg 70.

    To get to Universiteit Leiden using public transport, start at the Haarlem train station (Haarlem Centraal). Purchase a ticket to Leiden from the ticket machine or counter. Board a train heading towards Leiden, which departs frequently. After about 30 minutes, disembark at Leiden Centraal Station. From there, take bus number 1 (direction 'Leiden, Breestraat') from the bus stop outside the station and get off at the stop 'Rapenburg'. Walk a short distance down Rapenburg, and you will find Universiteit Leiden at number 70.
