Walking
From the Haarlem city center, head towards the main train station, Haarlem Centraal. Once you reach the station, take the train to Amsterdam Centraal. The journey will take approximately 15 minutes. After arriving at Amsterdam Centraal, exit the station and walk straight out towards the large square in front of the station. Continue straight onto the Damstraat which will lead you directly to the Dam Square. The National Monument is located in the center of Dam Square, easily recognizable by its tall white obelisk.
Public Transport
Start at Haarlem Centraal train station. Purchase a ticket to Amsterdam Centraal station. Trains run frequently, so check the schedule on the screens. After about 15 minutes, you'll arrive at Amsterdam Centraal. Exit the train and follow the signs to the main exit. Walk straight ahead to reach Dam Square. The National Monument is located in the center of the square. You can also take tram line 4, 14, or 24 from the nearby tram stop at Amsterdam Centraal, but walking is more straightforward.
Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike from one of the rental shops in Haarlem. Head towards the city center and follow the signs for the bike path to Amsterdam. The ride will take about 30-40 minutes. Once you reach Amsterdam, follow the signs to the city center and then to Dam Square. The National Monument will be right in front of you as you arrive at the square.
