Walking

From the center of Leiden, head towards the main train station, Leiden Centraal. Once you reach the station, take a train to Amsterdam Centraal. This journey takes approximately 35 minutes. Upon arriving at Amsterdam Centraal, exit the station and head towards the main square in front of the station. From there, walk south towards the Damrak street, which leads directly to Dam Square. Continue walking towards the Nieuwmarkt area. The total distance from Amsterdam Centraal to Nieuwmarkt is about 1.5 kilometers, which should take around 20 minutes on foot.

Public Transport

From any location in Leiden, make your way to Leiden Centraal station. Purchase a train ticket to Amsterdam Centraal. Once you arrive at Amsterdam Centraal station, exit and follow the signs to the tram station. Take tram line 26 towards 'Zuid' and get off at the 'Nieuwmarkt' stop. This tram ride is about 20 minutes. After exiting the tram, you will find yourself at Nieuwmarkt, which is a vibrant square surrounded by cafes and shops.
