Walking
If you are starting from Leiden Central Station, exit the station and head south towards the main street, Stationsweg. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Breestraat, where you will turn left. Follow Breestraat until you reach the end, then turn right onto Hooglandse Kerkgracht. Keep walking straight until you reach the intersection with the Doezastraat, and turn left. Continue walking along the Doezastraat, which will lead you to the bridge over the canal. Cross the bridge and continue straight onto the Witte Singel. After a short walk, turn right onto the Plesmanlaan, and then left onto the main road leading to The Hague (A44). Follow the road signs to The Hague, which is about 40 minutes away on foot. Once you arrive in The Hague, ask locals for directions to Lange Voorhout, where the Thorbecke Monument is located.
Bicycle
To get to the Thorbecke Monument by bicycle from Leiden, start at Leiden Central Station and head south on Stationsweg. Follow this route and turn onto Breestraat until you reach the end, then take a right onto Hooglandse Kerkgracht. Continue straight until you get to Doezastraat and turn left. You will cross a small bridge over the canal. After crossing, follow Witte Singel to Plesmanlaan, then follow the signs to The Hague. The ride should take about 20-30 minutes. Once in The Hague, look for signs to Lange Voorhout – the Thorbecke Monument will be on your left.
Public Transport
From Leiden Central Station, take the train to The Hague Central Station (Den Haag Centraal). Trains run frequently, approximately every 10-15 minutes. The journey takes around 20 minutes. Once you arrive at The Hague Central Station, exit the station and follow the signs to the tram stop. Take tram line 1 or 10 towards Scheveningen. Get off at the stop called 'Spui'. From there, head towards the Lange Voorhout, which is a short walk away. You should see the Thorbecke Monument within a few minutes of walking along Lange Voorhout.
