Each Science Café evening unfolds in a relaxed, social atmosphere. The venue opens at 7:30 PM with the lecture beginning at 8:00 PM and concluding around 10:30 PM. Attendees enjoy complimentary entry and can purchase beverages while listening to expert speakers discuss topics ranging from circular economy design to donor blood science. A professional moderator facilitates questions and discussion, ensuring the conversation remains dynamic and inclusive. The addition of live music—typically provided by the band Dubio—creates a unique fusion of intellectual engagement and cultural entertainment that distinguishes Science Café Deventer from traditional academic seminars.

With consistent monthly attendance of 100–120 participants, Science Café Deventer has cultivated a dedicated community of science enthusiasts. Building on the success of monthly gatherings, organizers launched Science Café Noir, a biennial science-art festival that expands the concept into a ticketed evening event. Despite ticket sales, the events maintain the volunteer-driven ethos and low-budget operational model that characterizes the organization.

Science Café Deventer operates under the guidance of Dr. Anne Dijkstra, an associate professor of Science Communication at the University of Twente and director of the Research Centre for Science Communication & Engagement.
