Car
If you are traveling by car from any location in the Wadden Islands, you should first head towards the nearest ferry terminal to the mainland. For instance, if you are on Texel, drive towards the Texel Ferry at 'De Cocksdorp'. Board the ferry, which typically costs around €2.50 per person and takes about 20 minutes. Once you arrive at Den Helder, follow the signs for the N9 road towards Alkmaar. Continue on the N9 until you reach the A9 motorway, then take the exit for A7 towards Groningen. Follow the A7 until you reach the signs for the Wadden Sea area.
Public Transportation
From any island, you can take a bus or shuttle service to the ferry terminal. For example, from Vlieland, take the local bus to the ferry terminal. The ferry to Harlingen costs approximately €18 return. Once you arrive in Harlingen, you can catch a train to Leeuwarden for about €10. From Leeuwarden, you can switch to another bus heading towards the Wadden Sea. Be sure to check the local schedules as they may vary, and allow extra time for connections.
Bicycle
For the more adventurous, you can cycle from your accommodation to the ferry terminal. Bicycles are often allowed on ferries for a small fee, usually around €1.50. Once on the mainland, you can cycle along designated bike paths leading to the Wadden Sea. This option allows you to enjoy the beautiful landscape and wildlife along the way.
