After reaching the intersection with NV-225, turn left onto NV-225 E and continue for about 26 miles until you reach the Ruby Mountains. Follow the signs for Thomas Canyon Campground. The campground is located at the end of Thomas Canyon Road, which is a well-maintained gravel road. Keep an eye out for the campground entrance on your right.
Public Transportation + Car
If you are using public transportation, take a Greyhound bus to Elko, NV. From Elko, you will need to arrange for a taxi or a rideshare service to take you to Thomas Canyon Campground. The taxi ride will be approximately 30 miles south along US-93 S and then NV-225 E. Make sure to confirm the fare with the driver beforehand, as it may vary. Alternatively, consider renting a car from Elko if you prefer more flexibility in your travel.
Bicycle
For the adventurous, biking from Elko is an option. Rent a bicycle in Elko and take US-93 S southeast for about 30 miles. Then, take NV-225 E for another 26 miles. Be prepared for varying terrain and ensure you have adequate supplies, including water and snacks, as this is a long ride. Follow the signs to Thomas Canyon Campground, where you will turn onto the gravel road leading to the campground.
Hiking (for the experienced)
If you are an experienced hiker and looking for a more strenuous route, consider hiking from the Ruby Mountains trailheads. You can access these trails via various points, but ensure you have a detailed map and are prepared for backcountry hiking. This option is recommended only for those who are physically fit and have the necessary survival skills, as it may take several hours to reach the campground on foot.
