To reach the Black Rock Desert - High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area from Reno, take I-80 W from the city center. After approximately 25 miles, take exit 15 for US-395 N toward Susanville. Continue on US-395 N for about 90 miles until you reach the town of Gerlach. In Gerlach, turn left onto County Road 34. Follow County Road 34 for about 10 miles until you reach the entrance to the conservation area. Note that there are no gas stations once you leave Gerlach, so make sure to fill up your tank before heading out.
