Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, take US Route 95 North from Reno or Las Vegas. From Reno, it is approximately a 3-hour drive. Once you reach the town of Gerlach, turn onto County Road 34. Follow County Road 34 for about 12 miles until you reach the Black Rock Desert - High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area entrance. Make sure to have a map or GPS device as cell service is limited in the area. There are no tolls along this route.

• Public Transportation

  There are limited public transportation options in Western Nevada. If you are relying on public transit, consider taking a Greyhound bus to Reno. From Reno, you can arrange for a shuttle service to Gerlach, which is the closest town to the National Conservation Area. It’s advised to book this shuttle in advance, as availability may vary. From Gerlach, you will need to rent a car or find a local service to take you to County Road 34, which leads to the conservation area.
