Culver Fire Tower: A Scenic Vista on the Appalachian Trail

Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, you can start your journey from Branchville, NJ. Head northwest on Main St toward County Route 565. Turn left onto County Route 565 and continue for approximately 3.5 miles. Look for signs for the Appalachian National Scenic Trail and Culver Fire Tower. There will be a parking area nearby where you can leave your vehicle. Note that parking may have a fee; check local signage for any applicable costs.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, you can take a NJ Transit train to the Branchville station. From the station, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare to get to the nearest access point to Culver Fire Tower, as public transport does not directly reach the site. The taxi ride should take about 10-15 minutes and cost approximately $10-$15. Once you arrive at the access point, you can follow the trail signs to reach the fire tower.

• Walking

  If you find yourself near the Appalachian Trail, you can access the Culver Fire Tower directly from the trail. Follow the Appalachian Trail markers toward the tower, which is approximately a 1-mile hike from the nearest trail access. The hike is moderately challenging, so make sure to wear appropriate footwear and bring water. The views from the tower are worth the effort!
