Ferry
From Hoboken Terminal, head towards the waterfront and locate the NY Waterway ferry terminal. Purchase a ticket for the ferry to Midtown Manhattan. The ferry ride will take approximately 8-10 minutes. Once you arrive at the West 39th Street terminal in Manhattan, you will need to exit the terminal and walk to the nearest subway station, which is the 42nd Street - Port Authority Bus Terminal station.
Subway
After exiting the ferry terminal, walk to the 42nd Street - Port Authority Bus Terminal subway station. Take the A, C, or E train downtown towards Brooklyn. Get off at the 59th Street - Columbus Circle station. From there, transfer to the B or D train, and ride one stop to the 72nd Street station. Exit the station and walk west on 72nd Street for two blocks until you reach The Dakota, located at 1 W 72nd St.
Bus
From Hoboken, you can take the NJ Transit bus #126 to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan. Once you arrive, walk to the 42nd Street - Port Authority Bus Terminal subway station and follow the subway directions previously mentioned, or you can simply walk west from the terminal. It is approximately a 20-25 minute walk to The Dakota.
