From downtown Lambertville, start at the Lambertville-New Hope Bridge. Head south on North Main Street, then turn left onto Bridge Street. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Route 29. Turn right onto Route 29 and follow it for about 1.8 miles. Upon reaching the intersection with Fairmount Avenue, turn left. The Eastern State Penitentiary will be located on your left at 2027 Fairmount Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19130.

From Lambertville, walk to the nearest bus stop on Route 29. You can take a New Jersey Transit bus heading towards Trenton. At the Trenton station, transfer to a SEPTA train heading towards Philadelphia. Disembark at the 69th Street Terminal, then take the Market-Frankford Line towards Frankford. Get off at the 15th Street Station and transfer to the Broad Street Line towards Fern Rock. Finally, get off at the Girard Station, exit the station, and walk west on Fairmount Avenue for about 10 minutes until you reach 2027 Fairmount Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19130.
