From Paterson, head to the nearest NJ Transit bus stop. You can catch the NJ Transit bus number 156 or 160 heading towards New York City. Make sure to check the schedule for the next bus. The ride will take approximately 30 minutes. Once you arrive at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan, exit the terminal and head to 8th Avenue. From there, take the subway. Find the A, C, or E train at the 42nd Street subway station. Ride the train downtown towards World Trade Center for 4 stops. Get off at 59th Street - Columbus Circle station. From the subway station, walk north on 8th Avenue, then turn left on West 63rd Street. Follow West 63rd Street until you reach Lincoln Center Plaza, where the Metropolitan Opera House is located at 30 Lincoln Center Plaza.

From Paterson, walk to the Paterson Train Station. Take a NJ Transit train on the North Jersey Coast Line or the Raritan Valley Line towards New York Penn Station.
