Walking
From the Paterson Museum at 2 Market St, head east on Market St towards Main St. Turn left onto Main St and walk for about 0.3 miles until you reach the Paterson Train Station. From the station, take the NJ Transit train towards Hoboken. Get off at the Newark Broad St Station (about 10-15 minutes ride). Once at Newark Broad St, transfer to the NJ Transit train heading towards New York Penn Station. This journey will take around 25 minutes. Upon reaching New York Penn Station, exit the station and walk to the nearby 34th St - Herald Sq subway station. Take the R/W line towards Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and transfer at 8th St - NYU to the L line towards Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy. Get off at the 1st stop, 1st Ave Station. From there, it’s a short 8-minute walk east: head down 1st Ave and take a right on E 10th St to reach Tompkins Square Park.
Public Transit
Start at the Paterson Bus Terminal located at 70 Broadway. Take the NJ Transit bus #164 towards New York Port Authority Bus Terminal. The bus ride will take approximately 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive at the Port Authority, exit the terminal and walk to the nearest subway station, which is the Times Sq-42nd St station. From there, take the 1, 2, or 3 subway line downtown to 14th St - Union Sq. At Union Sq, transfer to the L train towards Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy. Get off at the 1st stop, 1st Ave Station. Finally, walk east on E 10th St to reach Tompkins Square Park.
Biking
If you're feeling adventurous, you can rent a bike at a local bike-sharing station in Paterson, such as the one at Eastside Park. Head south on the bike path along the Passaic River, following the signs for the East Coast Greenway trail. This route will lead you to the Great Falls National Historical Park. From there, head to the Great Falls and follow the signs to the bike path that leads to Newark. Once you reach Newark, follow the bike lanes to the Newark Penn Station. From there, take the NJ Transit to New York Penn Station. After arriving at Penn Station, you can bike or walk to Tompkins Square Park, which is approximately 2 miles east.
