Car
From Raritan Valley, head east on Route 18 towards the Garden State Parkway. Merge onto the Garden State Parkway North. Continue on the Parkway for approximately 20 miles. Take exit 117 toward Sandy Hook/Highlands. Follow signs for Sandy Hook, and merge onto Route 36 East. After a few miles, turn left onto Mercer Road. Follow Mercer Road until you reach the Sandy Hook Lighthouse at 84 Mercer Rd, Highlands, NJ 07732. There is no entry fee for the lighthouse itself, but be aware of possible parking fees in the area.
Public Transportation
From Raritan Valley, take NJ Transit Train from your nearest station to the Middletown station. Once at Middletown, transfer to the NJ Transit bus #817 towards Highlands. The bus will take you to the Highlands area, where you can disembark at a stop near Mercer Road. From there, it's a short walk (approximately 10-15 minutes) to reach the Sandy Hook Lighthouse at 84 Mercer Rd, Highlands, NJ 07732. Please check the NJ Transit website for current schedules and fares, which typically range around $10-$15 for a one-way trip.
Bicycle
For cyclists, starting in Raritan Valley, head east towards the Raritan River and access local bike paths. Make your way to Route 36, which has bike lanes leading towards Sandy Hook. Follow Route 36 East until you reach Mercer Road. The lighthouse is located at 84 Mercer Rd, Highlands, NJ 07732. This route provides beautiful views along the way but be sure to wear a helmet and follow all traffic laws. There are no costs associated with biking unless you need to rent a bike.
