Getting There

  • Public Transport

    From the Albuquerque Bus Terminal located at 100 1st St SW, take the ABQ Ride Bus Route 66 (Central Ave) towards the Sandia Pueblo. Ride for approximately 30 minutes until you reach the 'Eagle Rock' stop. From there, you will need to transfer to Bus Route 8 (Montgomery Blvd). Board the bus and continue for about 15 minutes until you reach the 'Double Eagle' stop. Once you get off, you will be a short walk away from Black Volcano. Head northeast on Double Eagle Blvd for about 0.5 miles until you see the trailhead marked for Black Volcano.

  • Biking

    If you prefer to bike, you can rent a bike from a local rental shop in Albuquerque. Start from the Albuquerque Downtown area and head east towards Lomas Blvd. Take Lomas Blvd until you reach Tramway Blvd. Turn left on Tramway Blvd and continue north for about 5 miles. Then, turn right onto Double Eagle Blvd and bike for about 2 miles. You will find the Black Volcano trailhead on your left. Ensure you follow bike lanes and paths where available for safety.

    For those who enjoy walking, you can start from the Albuquerque BioPark located at 2601 Central Ave SW. Walk east on Central Ave for about a mile until you reach Tramway Blvd. Turn left on Tramway Blvd and walk north for approximately 2 miles. When you reach the intersection with Double Eagle Blvd, turn right and continue walking for about 1 mile. You will see the Black Volcano trailhead on your left. Be prepared for a scenic walk, and consider bringing water.
