Getting There

• Car

  From the main visitor center at Carlsbad Caverns National Park, take Walnut Canyon Road (NM-7) heading south. Continue on NM-7 for about 25 miles. You will pass through some scenic desert landscape. As you approach the intersection with US-62/180, turn left onto the highway. Follow US-62/180 for approximately 5 miles until you see the sign for Sitting Bull Falls Recreation Area. Take the exit onto Sitting Bull Falls Road. The recreation area is located about 3 miles down this road. Please note that there may be a parking fee, so have cash or a card ready.

• Public Transportation

  Currently, there are limited public transportation options directly to Sitting Bull Falls Recreation Area from Carlsbad Caverns National Park. However, you can take a taxi or rideshare service (such as Uber or Lyft) from the park to the recreation area. This will cost approximately $30-$50 depending on demand and exact pickup location.
