Car
From any location in Carson National Forest, head towards Jemez Springs. Use NM-4 as your main route. If you're coming from the north (e.g., from Los Alamos), take NM-501 south to NM-4, then head south on NM-4. If you're coming from the south (e.g., from Santa Fe), take US-84 north to NM-4. Continue on NM-4 for about 15 miles. The entrance to Valles Caldera National Preserve will be on the left at 39201 NM-4, Jemez Springs, NM 87025. Look for the Valles Caldera National Preserve sign.

Public transportation options are limited in this area, but you can take a bus from Albuquerque to Jemez Springs. The New Mexico Park and Ride service offers routes that can get you close. Once in Jemez Springs, you will likely need to use a taxi or rideshare service to reach Valles Caldera National Preserve, as it is about 14 miles from the bus stop. Ensure to check the bus schedule in advance as services may not be frequent.

If you are within a reasonable distance from the preserve and enjoy biking or walking, you can bike from Jemez Springs to Valles Caldera National Preserve along NM-4. Please note that the road can be busy and lacks dedicated bike lanes, so exercise caution. Walking from Jemez Springs is possible but may take several hours, as it is nearly 14 miles one way.
