If you are driving from anywhere in Northeast New Mexico, take US-84 S towards Clovis and then merge onto I-40 W towards Albuquerque. Continue on I-40 W for about 160 miles. Take exit 157A for 12th St NW, then turn right onto 12th St NW. Next, turn left onto Central Ave NW and finally turn right onto 8th St NW. The New Mexico Steam Locomotive will be on your left at 1833 8th St NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102. Parking is available nearby, but be aware that there may be parking fees.

For those using public transportation, start by taking a local bus to the nearest Greyhound bus station or a regional bus service that operates in Northeast New Mexico. You will need to take a bus to Albuquerque, which has several daily departures. Once in Albuquerque, use the local bus service (ABQ RIDE) to reach the museum. Take the Route 66 bus towards the Albuquerque Depot, and get off at Central Ave NW. From Central Ave NW, transfer to the Route 51 bus and get off at 8th St NW. Walk to 1833 8th St NW, which is a short distance away. Be sure to check the bus schedules in advance for any potential costs and times.
