Cedar Creek Picnic Shelter: A Nature Lover's Haven

Getting There

• Walking

  Start at the Ruidoso Chamber of Commerce located at 720 Sudderth Drive. Head east on Sudderth Drive until you reach the intersection with Mechem Drive. Turn left onto Mechem Drive and continue walking for about half a mile. Look for the signs for Cedar Creek Picnic Shelter as you approach the area. You will walk through a scenic route, and the picnic shelter is located within the Lincoln National Forest, about 2 miles from the Chamber of Commerce.

• Biking

  If you have a bike, start at the Ruidoso River Trailhead located at the corner of Sudderth Drive and White Mountain Drive. Follow the River Trail south towards the Ruidoso River. Continue on the trail, which will eventually lead you towards the area of Cedar Creek. Once you reach the intersection near Cedar Creek Road, follow the road to the right until you find the Cedar Creek Picnic Shelter. The total distance is approximately 3 miles and offers beautiful views along the way.

• Public Transit (if available)

  Check local transit schedules for any available buses or shuttles that may go towards the Lincoln National Forest area. If a route is available, board the bus at the nearest bus stop to your location in Ruidoso and request to disembark at the nearest stop to Cedar Creek Picnic Shelter. From there, follow the signs directing you to the shelter, which is approximately a 10-minute walk away.
