Take US-285 S for about 30 miles until you reach the junction with NM-17 S. Turn onto NM-17 S and follow it for about 15 miles until you reach the village of Lama. Just after passing the village, look for the signs directing you towards Fajada Butte. Follow the dirt road for approximately 2 miles until you reach the parking area. Note that the road may be rough and a high-clearance vehicle is recommended, and be prepared for a small parking fee, typically around $5.

    For those relying on public transportation, take the New Mexico Park and Ride service to Taos. From Taos, you will need to arrange a taxi or rideshare service to take you to Fajada Butte.
