Getting There

  • Car

    From any location within Santa Fe National Forest, head towards the city of Santa Fe. Look for the signs leading to NM-285/NM-84. Take NM-285 North and continue for approximately 6 miles. Turn right onto NM-599 (the Santa Fe Bypass) and continue for about 4 miles. Take the exit towards US-84/NM-285 and keep left at the fork to merge onto US-84 N/NM-285 N. After about 2 miles, take the exit for NM-599 toward Los Alamos. Continue on NM-599 for approximately 5 miles until you see the signs for La Tierra Trailhead. Follow the signs to the trailhead parking area.

    If you are using public transportation, take the Santa Fe Trails bus service. Board the bus at the nearest stop to your location and take route 2 (Calle Lorca). You will need to transfer to route 4 (Calle de Agua) at the intersection of S St Francis Dr and W Zia Rd. Once on route 4, get off at the stop for NM-599. From there, you may need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to reach La Tierra Trailhead, as public transit does not go directly to the trailhead.
