From the heart of Turquoise Trail, get onto NM-14 S. Follow NM-14 S for approximately 16 miles until you reach the intersection with NM-165. Turn right onto NM-165 and continue for about 3 miles. Look for signs directing you to Sandia Cave. You'll find a small parking area available near the cave entrance. The total drive should take around 30 minutes, depending on traffic.
Public Transportation + Walking
If you are using public transportation, take the NM Rail Runner Express from Albuquerque to the Sandia Park Station. From the station, you will need to call a taxi or rideshare service to take you to NM-165, as public transportation options are limited. Once you reach NM-165, walk about 3 miles to Sandia Cave from the drop-off point. Be aware that this part of the journey requires walking on a rural road, so be cautious of traffic.
Walking
For those staying close to NM-165, you might opt for a hike. If you are already in the vicinity of NM-165, find a safe spot to park your vehicle and begin your hike towards Sandia Cave. The hike is roughly 0.5 miles from the nearest parking area, involving a well-marked trail that leads to the cave entrance. The hike is relatively easy and should take about 15-20 minutes.
