Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start by getting onto NY-28 from your current location in the Adirondack Mountains. Follow NY-28 and then take the exit for NY-8 North towards North Creek. Continue on NY-8 North for approximately 8 miles until you reach the junction with NY-418. Turn left onto NY-418, which will lead you into the town of Johnsburg. Keep an eye out for signs directing you to Crane Mountain. The trailhead is located off of Crane Mountain Road, which you will see as you approach the mountain. Note that Crane Mountain Road is a gravel road, and a high-clearance vehicle is recommended for the last stretch.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, you can take a bus to North Creek via the Adirondack Trailways service. Once you arrive in North Creek, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to get to the Crane Mountain trailhead, as there are limited public transport options directly to the mountain. Be sure to check the bus schedules in advance, as they may not run frequently. The taxi ride from North Creek to Crane Mountain may cost around $20-$30, depending on the service you use.

• Hiking

  Once you reach the Crane Mountain trailhead, you will find a small parking area. From here, the hiking trail is well-marked and begins directly from the parking lot. The trail is approximately 2 miles long and will take you to the summit of Crane Mountain. Expect a moderate hike with some rocky sections and a few ladders, so be prepared for a bit of climbing. Remember to bring plenty of water and snacks for your hike.
